An MS (Mild Steel) stud is a headless, externally threaded rod made from low-carbon steel, designed for semi-permanent fastening in industrial and construction settings. Unlike a standard bolt, a stud is typically threaded at both ends or along its entire length, allowing it to be screwed into a tapped hole on one side while a nut is tightened on the other to provide clamping force.
Due to the inherent ductility of mild steel, these studs are easy to install and cost-effective for general engineering tasks. They are frequently used in flange connections, machinery assembly, and structural steel joints. To prevent oxidation, MS studs are commonly treated with zinc plating or hot-dip galvanization, ensuring reliable performance in moderately corrosive environments.
